Catalyst Church!

On Saturday, Nov. 5th we drove up to Bentonville, AR for a Sunday morning service. The trip took about 7 hours and unfortunately the boys didn’t sleep very much L. However, we did have a beautiful view of the colorful northwest Arkansas mountains. It’s so nice to see trees turning so many different colors in the fall! I guess we’re not really used to that here in Texas. When we arrived in Bentonville, we got setup in our hotel, which was very nice and very close to the church. Also, there was a huge basket with lots of snacks and goodies for us, as well as a kind letter from the staff at the church.

We went out to dinner with the Associate Pastor and his wife at a restaurant called Cheezey’s American Grille. It was great for the whole family because there were so many options. We also got to catch up with our old friends from college Brandon (the Associate Pastor) and Melissa Smith. They have a little girl who is super cute and a really easy baby from what I could tell!  After dinner we were able to show them the new SAGU worship CD that Meredith was in charge of and they showed us their new church worship album that was just about to be released a couple of weeks later. Then we headed back to the hotel and called it a night.

Thankfully we got an extra hour of sleep because of the Daylight Savings Time change. However, as we awoke, Mer and I both felt like we were being attacked. We had a good talk and then prayed together. I also received an encouraging text from my Dad around the same time so we began to feel better about everything.

We shared a missions window during both of the A.M. services. Worship was awesome and the entire service was very special because it was the launch of the church’s new name, Catalyst Church. I really felt like God spoke some significant things to me during the pastor’s explanation of what it means to be a catalyst as a Christian and as a church. After service we were able to talk to several people who were interested in praying for the city of London and for our family.

Later, we went to lunch with Pastor Nate Sweeney and his family as well as Brandon and his family. We went to Red Robin, which was exciting for us because we had never been there but had heard so much about it. Well the food was quite delicious, especially the bacon cheeseburger with provolone cheese and served with spicy ketchup…yum! Finally, we headed back on the road for another 7-hour trip home with the boys, who slept quite well this time ;)

Thank you Pastor Sweeney for letting us come share our vision for the people of London with your great church on such a monumental day. Thanks Pastor Brandon for your family’s lifelong friendship with ours and for taking such great care of us. You guys brought new meaning to the word hospitality!

Fellowship of Joy!

On October 30th we were in Grand Prairie, TX at Fellowship of Joy with Pastor Scott Camp. We got to know Pastor Camp a couple of years ago when he was the dean of students at SAGU. Also, I got to know him personally because he used to come into my Starbucks in Waxahachie (where I work) every morning to get a French Press of coffee. We played a song that we wrote and did a missions window in both of the morning services. In the 2nd service I really felt led to give the testimony of how we had been able to confirm that God was sending us to England as missionaries. Then Pastor Camp and resident evangelist Kevin Peterson came up to pray for us along with their wives. The rest of the congregation also prayed for us.

It was actually ironic that Kevin Peterson was there because he usually is preaching in other churches each week but on this particular week he was preaching at FOJ. Incredibly, he and his wife felt a call to London, England several years ago but were not able to go because the British Assemblies of God was not open to receiving missionaries from the U.S. We feel a definite connection with this couple for this reason and we were very pleased when we found out they were there. Brother Peterson delivered a powerful message about the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel and both Meredith and I felt especially challenged to have great faith even in the midst of dead situations!

Thank you so much Pastor Camp for believing in missions and believing in us!

Living Church - missions window!

On October 23rd we were pleased to be at our home church, Living Church in Mansfield, TX. 1st we helped our worship pastor Derek Guynes, myself with guitar and Meredith with vocals. What an incredible team to worship with! Everyone is so gifted musically and anointed!

Pastor Dan Hunter wanted to interview us about what we’re going to be doing in London and really share with the church what it means to be a missionary with the Assemblies of God since it was just planted a year ago and not everyone who attends grew up going to church.

After service we were able to connect with several members of the church whom we haven’t even met yet. One of them had been a missionary to Ireland so she had some insight and experience to share with us!

Thank you Pastor Dan and Rachel for being incredible leaders with a passion to see God work in Mansfield as well as abroad!

Bastrop, LA

On October 16th we were privileged to be in Bastrop, LA, which is near where I was born (West Monroe). On Sunday morning we were in 1st Assembly and on Sunday evening we were in Trinity Assembly. It was a long 7-hour drive on Saturday but we finally got there around dinnertime. When we arrived at the hotel there was a large gift bag full of delicious fruit, snacks, and candy for the boys and us! Then Pastor Willis took us to dinner in Monroe at a large Asian buffet. We were excited because they had sushi and the boys were excited when they found out they got to eat ice cream for dessert!

On Sunday morning we were able to help the pastor and his wife with worship and we had a lot of fun because they are both very musically gifted and together we came up with some great harmonies. After worship we were able to share a song that we wrote and give a short missions window. The sermon was given by Brother David Reddout who is part of the missions awareness team in the area. I was so encouraged to hear his heart for missions and some beautiful stories he had to share of people sacrificially giving to missions.

On Sunday night we planned on having the boys help us with the missionary window by singing their missionary kid song but it turned out they were not in the mood to cooperate lol! I guess the long road trip and lack of sleep finally got to them ;) Meredith ended up taking the boys to the nursery and she was actually able to speak with a woman who had really been through a lot recently. She really felt like God put her there as an encourager. Meanwhile, God gave me a message to preach to the congregation on faith and I felt like it went well. I especially felt led to share a couple of my own testimonies of healing with the church and to pray for people who needed physical healing.  After service the pastor took us to a delicious pizza restaurant in town and we had great conversation with he and his wife.

It was a great weekend and we were so overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the pastors. Thank you Pastor Willis and Pastor Pack!

The Oaks

Mer and I had an incredible opportunity to be at the Oaks Fellowship with Clayton Brooks on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. I actually attended the Oaks for 17 years so it was almost like coming home for me. Also, Clayton and I grew up together since we were about 11 years old and have remained great friends even though he’s a Redskins fan ;)

We had a blast playing with the worship team that night with Clayton and Ross and Candis Fishburn who are also close friends. On top of that, God moved in a very sweet way during worship. After worship, Meredith and I played 3 of our original songs, which was really fun for us because most churches only have time for us to do one.

Next, Clayton interviewed us about our mission to London and we were able to share how God called us to London and how we were able to confirm that it was Him speaking to us. This was the 1st time that we shared our mission in an interview style and we absolutely loved it!

At the end of the service Clayton had people come up and pray for us and then we had some great conversations with individuals after the close of the service. Several people were really interested in our calling to London and had additional questions for us. We also got to talk to a couple that had lived in Scotland for a few years and they were able to give us insight into the culture of the UK. Also, we were really excited because several people made a commitment to support us on a monthly basis (our 2nd greatest need after prayer)!

Thanks for reading and please pray for us to be able to raise our support quickly so we can get to England as soon as possible.
