We started out the day with a delicious English breakfast at our hotel. They had eggs, ham (it was more like a cross between ham and bacon but very yummy), little checkered shaped potatoes, and rolls with jam. After breakfast we made our way to a hotel near Russell Square where some friends of ours were staying.
Wow what a crazy day! We left DFW last night at about 8:15 p.m. Dallas time. It started out by Meredith and I praying that we could sit next to each other on a 9 hour flight! We didn’t realize soon enough that you were supposed to select your seats on American Airlines website. By the time we did, there were only single seats available and they were all middle seats so we just selected two seats back to back. As soon as we got on the plane we asked the people next to us to switch with one of us and everyone said no until the last guy. He actually said no initially but then he said, “Wait, I’ll do it. I’d give anything to sit by my wife”. Awesome, right! So it was a long flight but we watched the feature film “Mr. Popper’s Penguins”, a pretty good movie, and we did get some sleep and had a couple of descent meals.
On October 30th we were in Grand Prairie, TX at Fellowship of Joy with Pastor Scott Camp. We got to know Pastor Camp a couple of years ago when he was the dean of students at SAGU. Also, I got to know him personally because he used to come into my Starbucks in Waxahachie (where I work) every morning to get a French Press of coffee. We played a song that we wrote and did a missions window in both of the morning services. In the 2nd service I really felt led to give the testimony of how we had been able to confirm that God was sending us to England as missionaries. Then Pastor Camp and resident evangelist Kevin Peterson came up to pray for us along with their wives. The rest of the congregation also prayed for us.
On October 23rd we were pleased to be at our home church, Living Church in Mansfield, TX. 1st we helped our worship pastor Derek Guynes, myself with guitar and Meredith with vocals. What an incredible team to worship with! Everyone is so gifted musically and anointed!
On October 16th we were privileged to be in Bastrop, LA, which is near where I was born (West Monroe). On Sunday morning we were in 1st Assembly and on Sunday evening we were in Trinity Assembly. It was a long 7-hour drive on Saturday but we finally got there around dinnertime. When we arrived at the hotel there was a large gift bag full of delicious fruit, snacks, and candy for the boys and us! Then Pastor Willis took us to dinner in Monroe at a large Asian buffet. We were excited because they had sushi and the boys were excited when they found out they got to eat ice cream for dessert!
Mer and I had an incredible opportunity to be at the Oaks Fellowship with Clayton Brooks on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. I actually attended the Oaks for 17 years so it was almost like coming home for me. Also, Clayton and I grew up together since we were about 11 years old and have remained great friends even though he’s a Redskins fan ;)
Thanks for reading and please pray for us to be able to raise our support quickly so we can get to England as soon as possible.
We had such a good time in Jacksonville (no not Florida….. Texas). If you don’t know where Jacksonville, TX is, it’s about 30 miles directly south of Tyler and about 2 ½ hours east of Waxahachie. Meredith’s dad (Mike Townsend) became the pastor of 1st Assembly of God in Jacksonville earlier this year and he and his wife Donna have really been an incredible blessing to us throughout this whole process. We actually came to their church in May right after we found out that we had been approved to be missionaries to England. They were actually the very 1st church that we ever shared our vision for England with and their generous offering helped to enable us to pay for our missionary training in June.
So we went to Canada for the 1st time in July and we had a blast. It was the 1st time Josiah had ever been on a plane and only the 2nd time for Eli (he was only 7 months old the 1st time). While we were there we got to do a lot of fun stuff but we were also able to minister at a small church in Toronto. My dad preached the service and Meredith and I sang one of Meredith's songs, "In All the Earth". It will be the title track on the upcoming live worship album released by SAGU in November. Our regional director over Europe just recently received this e-mail from the superintendent of Sri Lanka and I'd like to share it with you:
Subject: Pray for UK.
Dear Friends,
Last week I was visiting London right in the middle of the riots and I could not believe my eyes that civilized society would behave in such madness.
While politicians and police point fingers at each other, I found the following article in the Daily Mail by a secular journalist very enlightening, directing us to a different direction.
It’s time to pray for Britain that the Church in the UK will reclaim its role in Society.
Please take some time today to pray for God to raise up Nehemiahs in the Church to birth some strategic initiatives for this Nation.
